Gregg Industries Inc. is a gray and ductile iron foundry in El Monte, California, that manufactures complex, highly cored ferrous, high-quality castings for the industrial, automotive, and truck industries. Gregg Industries’ 185,000-square-foot facility also features a machine shop, making them a full-service company capable of producing as-cast, precision-machined, and assembled parts for customers such as Honeywell, Detroit Diesel, and several others. Gregg Industries is an ISO-9002 and QS-9000 certified foundry.  

Gregg Industries operates numerous energy-intensive processes with complex operational requirements. With significant need to swiftly reduce their electricity bill, Gregg Industries required an intelligent energy management system that would enable them to manage loads without adversely affecting production numbers, or the quality of their products.

Powerit Solutions conducted a free energy assessment, reviewing billing data and discussing facility loads. Powerit’s engineers identified five induction furnaces ranging from 1,200 to 4,500 kW, as prime candidates for load shedding to tackle high electrical rates. They found careful management over furnace temperature could allow Gregg to maintain production while reducing overall energy usage during periods of peak demand
